Green Mark International
Green Mark International (GM International) provides a robust and leading method to assess and verify buildings for their environmental performance, assisting project teams and building owners to deliver and demonstrate high performing and sustainable buildings. Tailored for buildings in the tropics and sub-topics, GM International is built upon best practices, climate science, analysis of large building performance data sets and global thought leadership in sustainability. GM International aims to further stretch outcomes of buildings to substantially reduce the environmental impacts – focusing on Energy Efficiency, whole life carbon, health and wellbeing, resilience, intelligence, and maintainability.
GM International is aligned to international sustainability goals and requirements such as the United Nation Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDGs), World Green Building Council Health & Wellbeing Framework, global real estate reporting frameworks like Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), Sustainable Finance Taxonomies and recommendations under the Taskforce for Climate Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).

GM International has adopted the Green Mark 2021 assessment criteria framework, which includes two mandatory requirements: Energy Efficiency and Base Sustainability Requirements. These requirements are applicable to all applications, including new developments and existing buildings currently in operation. However, Base Sustainability Requirements are not applicable to GM International In-Operation projects with past Green Mark certifications.
In addition to Energy Efficiency and Base Sustainability Requirements, there are five sustainability sections: Intelligence, Health and Wellbeing, Whole Life Carbon, Maintainability, and Resilience. Projects that achieve at least 10 points in a sustainability section will receive a ‘badge’ award.
Starting 1 June 2024, all GM International certification projects, including ongoing ones with applications submitted before that date, will be assessed using the 2nd Edition of the certification standards and technical guides. The 1st Edition will remain valid until 31 May 2024. Please familiarize yourself with the updated standards and guides to ensure compliance with the latest requirements.
